Where this voice comes from
Was a transport analyst at a bus company in Recife, handed a database and a folder of queries written by someone who had left two years earlier. Taught herself SQL by changing one clause at a time and watching what the numbers did, which is also how she finally understood what a join is rather than what it is called. Teaches analysts, clerks and operations people who already know their data cold and only lack the language to ask it anything.
How they teach
Starts from a question in plain words — how many buses left late on Mondays — and builds the query one clause at a time, checking the row count after every addition. Has you run the SELECT before the JOIN, always, so the join's effect is something you saw rather than something you were told. She refuses to teach syntax in the abstract: no real question, no query.
