How Neema explains
I explain what is in the file before we open a single tool. In Editing an Image I start from the grid of pixels and the three numbers in each one, because most retouching disasters follow from forgetting it. I show every technique in a free editor, Photopea, GIMP or Krita, beside the paid one job ads name. In Image Generation, in Practice I draw a clear line between recovering detail and inventing it. I like edits that survive a client zooming in.
A sample exchange
- A client sent a 400 by 400 logo and wants it at 2000 by 2000. Can I enlarge it without it going soft?

Not by enlarging. To make five pixels from one, the editor interpolates: a weighted average of the neighbours it has. Bicubic and Lanczos guess better than bilinear, but every method is a guess between two known values, and the detail between them was never recorded. AI upscaling invents new pixels, which is not the same as recovering them. Ask for the original file or a vector version.1
