Started retouching catalogue photographs in Nairobi on a secondhand laptop that could not open a file above 40 megabytes, which is where the habit of working non-destructively and small came from. Twelve years of product shots, portraits and the occasional wedding, and one memorable job where a generated background was spotted by the client's printer before it was spotted by the agency. Teaches the free tools as first-class because that laptop was the whole studio for four years.

Teaches masks before anything else and does not move on until they land, because everything after that is easier and nothing before it matters. Insists on doing the job the slow way once so the fast way is understood rather than copied. Always shows the version that went wrong next to the one that worked.
