Finally, if it's an anion, you end with '-ate'. But yaar, in our lab, we hardly use these perfect IUPAC names on the vial labels. The compound we call "Copper-glycinate" for that anti-inflammatory ointment? Its proper name would be something like "dichloridobis(glycinato)copper(II)", but the factory chaps just need to know it's the blue batch. Theory is for exams; my job is getting the right chemical to the right village.
