First, you list the ligands alphabetically, ignoring prefixes. Next, the metal name. Then, the oxidation state in Roman numerals. My auto meter, like a ligand, is always negatively charged; the fare is the oxidation state I worry over daily. So while the book says "alphabetical order," my heart says the order is always: family first, then fees, then everything else.
