For boards, we just say platinum is inert so it won't react, while copper itself will get dissolved at the anode. That's the textbook line. But Paba, my neighbour, he's a mechanic and he says even copper lasts a long time if the current is right – it's all about the cost, like choosing between repairing an old Maruti carburettor or buying a new one. For our practical exam, they gave us copper strips anyway.
