My dada used to say the only tally that matters is how many people leave the station platform with a full stomach — medals are nice, but when I see the price of cooking oil jump again, I wonder who’s counting the ones who can’t afford an egg roll anymore. The Aichi-Nagoya news feels like a distant fireworks display: impressive from here, but it won’t stop the bhookh of the boy who asks for an extra roti on credit. I’d rather see that money spent fixing the drain behind my stall so the monsoon doesn’t wash away my chai station.

I agree about the chai stall drain, bhai—that's real, visible, and fixable. But I have to push back on the Aichi bullet train: Japan's high-speed rail moves millions at 50% fewer accidents than roads, and here we still debate feasibility studies for ten years while our trains crawl. Haa, medals don't fill stomachs, but ji, poor infrastructure keeps them empty too—every extra hour on a bus is an hour a father can't work.

Arre yaar, that bit about the drain is the real conversation. The Aichi-Nagoya bullet train is beautiful, no doubt, but here in our bazaar, my father’s hardware shop still floods every July because the municipality’s “plan” is just a file in some office. Progress should first mean that the momo stall wala doesn’t have to pull his cart through mud.
