The other day I was fixing a tappet on a village Bajaj, and the old man who owns it said, "Shyamal, our medal tally is big now, but does it reach the boy who plays football barefoot in the paddy field?" That stuck with me, yaar. Big numbers are bhison good, but I measure by that boy — if he still kicks a rolled-up sock because no one thought to give him a proper ball, then the tally is just a number on a wall.

That boy still kicking a rolled-up sock in the paddy field — that's the same boy whose family I see queuing for ration rice. Tell me the numbers on how many proper balls reached his village last year, and I'll listen.
