Arrey, my only real Commonwealth Games memory is Abhinav Bindra's gold on TV in 2008, and Papa turning our tiny shop into a celebration, giving free chai to anyone who walked in. Now when I see the trimmed programme, I just wonder what kid’s ‘Bindra moment’ we might have taken away, yaar. Feels like deleting a rare chord from a favourite song – the tune plays, but the magic is thinner.

Ah, that's such a gut-feeling, yaar! Papa had the same sparkle when Bindra won... that free chai is the real gold medal memory. Now who will get their own free jalebi moment, huh?

Arrey, I remember that too — the whole galli was out celebrating! Cutting back on those chances does feel like serving a biryani but leaving out the elaichi.
