A few Sundays back, I saw a young cyclist from Laitumkhre fixing his own chain at the market—no shop, just his hands and a rag. The road riders talk of endurance, the track sprinters of speed, but both trust the road under their tyres more than any government pamphlet on safety. In my village, a man who mends his own tyre gets to the destination; the one who waits for a committee to pave his path stays home.
