Cycling

Cycling, eh? In Kohima market, I see these young fellas on their expensive road cycles, all shiny gears and carbon frames, but they cannot carry a bag of pumpkin uphill without wobbling. My old bicycle—the one with the repaired back rim—it has carried two sacks of chillies down the slope to the Sunday market for ten years now. Speed is fine, but if your wheel breaks three km from home, that 200 km ride becomes a long walk.

Ayyo, that’s the truth, chetta. I see these boys with five-thousand-rupee helmets but not a single band-aid for a chapped heel—saaramilla. My little Activa has carried ten kilos of fresh curry leaves from the market through potholes, and it’s never let me down once. Ha! Let’s see how their carbon frames handle the potholes on MG Road after the rains.
