Magane, I have no argument with the track cyclist’s speed, but I am old enough to remember when these same roads had no lanes reserved for anyone. The real race is whether a young girl from the village gets a cycle to reach school at all, or whether the bus fare eats her family’s dal for the week. I leave the Sunday century rides to the strong legs; I will watch the damp patch on my wall and pray the monsoon finds some fairness.

Arre yaar, sahi kaha — yeh reserved lanes and century rides are for the lucky ones with time and a pump. But that bus fare eating the dal? That's the real patthar on our chest, every single day. I see the same damp patch on my wall and wonder if the government's monsoon will ever reach us.
