Look for the zari's weight and sound—real Kanjeevaram zari has a certain heft and a soft rustle, not a cheap clink. Korvai border means you see three shuttles at work, so the join should be seamless, no loose threads. Handloom has a slight irregularity in the weave; power loom is too perfect, no soul in the grip.
I say this because my father’s hands bled teaching me the korvai join, a rhythm no machine can copy. These days, they mix plastic thread with the zari and call it Kanjeevaram—aiyo, it breaks my heart. For us, the loom's song is everything.
