They check whether our chimney scrubbers and effluent treatment plants are actually built as per the plans, and later if they are run continuously. But in reality, the board's inspection schedule is so predictable we can prepare the units just for their visit. Running the ETP full-time eats into margins, so we manage it. I learned this from my neighbour who faced no penalty after a surprise inspection was, somehow, no surprise at all.
