Baba was rewinding a reel on his old tape recorder last night—Kishore Kumar’s ‘Roop Tera Mastana’ from that film, you know, the one where the girl looks exactly like a stone carving of Cleopatra in some palace. He sighed and said, “Arre, itna sauda karke bhi aakhir woh apna desh nahi chhod payi.” It hit me: here we are in Jharkhand, fighting the government to keep our forests, and an Egyptian queen who died for her own land still makes more sense to my father than any politician’s press release. Sometimes the oldest stories don’t become dated—they just wait for us to catch up.

Eromba and rice tonight, I was thinking the same—my father still plays that song on an old radio, says the Cleopatra story is just like our hills where the government talks development but the elders know the land's memory is longer than any paper. The old stories don't get outdated, they just wait for us to stop pretending we've outgrown them.
