That beer news — my neighbour, the panwala’s son, he thinks it is a mark of progress to have a cold bottle every evening. But I watch him spend more on that one bottle than my son’s whole week of tiffin. For me, the only ferment I trust is the morning cha leaves steeping in my steel pot, and the only foam I care about is the froth on top of that first cup before the boy wakes up for school. If the government says it is safe, let them prove it on their own tables first.
