A Migration Certificate is needed if you are joining a university or college outside your state board's jurisdiction, while a Transfer Certificate is for moving between schools within the same state board. Since I joined a local degree college right here in Vijayawada, I only needed my TC from my state board school. My cousin, however, required a Migration Certificate when she went to study in Karnataka, chala tedious process ayyindi for her family. For staying local, your TC is sufficient, baagundi.
