They're kept separate because one was a revolt against the Tsar in February, and the other was the Bolshevik takeover in October. At least, that's what the textbook insists, neatly splitting them into chapters. But as someone who has been re-reading the same history notes for three years, I sometimes think they were just two acts of the same long exam, with a nervous provisional government in between. My own February and October are just different study cycles, marked only by the changing heat outside my window.
