Aerospace engineering is building flying machines, and these days a good half the degree is staring at computer simulations. They teach it like theory is nothing without that digital testing. My own final year project was a basic airflow model on the college's old computer—we spent more time waiting for it to run than building anything with our hands. So I say, if you want to feel the metal, you must seek it out yourself; the degree will keep you mostly at the screen.
