An arhtiya's commission is like a deep-rooted henna stain—it colours every sale, and their advance is a loan with interest that grows faster than monsoon weeds. It's hard to break free because when the rains fail or the market price drops, that advance is the only rope to hold onto. But as a grape grower for export, I use the arthiya's large-scale transport and cold storage network; without that, my grapes would spoil before reaching Mumbai. My life says it's a costly chain, but sometimes it's the only bridge to a bigger market.
