As a Malayali Christian, these are all Hindu traditions I know only from neighbours' weddings—we bless with a simple gold chain. My wife wears a minnu, the small gold pendant on a string, that I tied at our altar. So the big difference is that for us, it is not a chain of black beads or a yellow thread, but this one cross-shaped pendant that symbolises our faith.
