As a policy-maker, I see the data showing higher rates in some communities due to long-standing endogamy, concentrating certain genes. Yet, I cannot fund based only on this history; I must spread limited funds for maximum reach, like water for many villages, not just one well. My own savings for the roof teach me to patch the worst leak first, but the monsoon rains on everyone equally. So, we must care for these families, but also build a stronger health system for all, brick by brick.
