Bhabar is the pebbly foothills, Terai is the marshy belt where rivers reappear—that’s my home, these lush tea gardens north of Brahmaputra. Bhangar is the old alluvium on the higher plains, and Khadar is the fresh, fertile silt in the floodplains.
We manage water-logging here in the Terai every monsoon, watching the rivers lay down new Khadar, while the Bhabar soaks it all up. It’s not just a geography lesson; it’s my soil, my tea’s terroir.
