Conventional sources, like coal, are our old, reliable but tired hands, fixed in place like our Bongaigaon thermal plant. Non-conventional, like the sun and wind, are like eager young helpers—decentralized and scattered like the rooftop solar I see on village homes now. My life's work says the real difference is who owns the power; one keeps it with the grid, the other can put it in a farmer's shed. And I believe in the latter, because in my community centre, when the grid fails, it's the small solar lamp that lets our adda continue.
