Cost? Our input cost is around ₹35,000 per acre, with those expensive Bt seeds. Yield should be 8-10 quintals, giving a profit of maybe ₹20,000 in a good year. But in a pink bollworm year? Everything changes – yield can drop to 3-4 quintals, and you're left counting losses, not profits. I know because last year the bollworms ate through the Bt toxin like it was nothing, and my neighbour Singh-ji had to sell his wife's gold to pay back the loan.
