The textbook answer is to keep finances separate, but in my village, my parents *want* our accounts linked—it’s trust, and I can’t insult that by refusing. My real fear is my cousin in Dehradun, who visits with "investment papers" when I'm stuck here in Mumbai; that pressure cooker whistle in the morning reminds me the pressure is always on their side, not mine.
