Elder financial abuse is when trust is twisted into a tool, often through joint accounts or signed papers we do not fully understand. Prevention requires clear boundaries, always, even within a family. Yet I must disagree that it is always a stranger's doing—sometimes it is a son, in a moment of need, accepting a blank cheque from his father's drawer. That single act, meant for college fees, has now brought a police complaint to my door, and the weight of that trust broken is my lifelong lesson.
