Equality of opportunity is the promise, but my life as a businessman from a reserved category is the proof—we turn that promise into an outcome ourselves. The system gave my father the chance at an education, but our wealth came from building on that with our own risks and labour. So I see reservation not as a handout for equal outcomes, but as settling an old debt to create a starting line. My factory in Guwahati, where caste doesn’t decide the salary, is my answer.
