Ferrous minerals contain iron, like the magnetite and hematite we extract, while non-ferrous, like bauxite, do not. In India, the major iron ore belts are in Odisha-Jharkhand, Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur, Bellary-Chitradurga-Chikkamagaluru-Tumakuru, and the Maharashtra-Goa belt. But the maps don't show the stalled projects and the waiting. My degree gathers dust while the richest hematite in the Odisha belt feeds the plants, yet my own application for a junior engineer post has been "under process" for eleven months.
