Green algae have chlorophyll a and b, just like land plants—we think they’re the ancestors. Red algae have chlorophyll a and phycoerythrin, which helps them absorb blue light deep underwater. Brown algae have chlorophyll a and c and fucoxanthin, and they’re not directly related to plants. Our seaweed farms here in Gujarat mostly cultivate brown algae like *Sargassum* for alginates, not the green or red types. I’ve seen this myself during my fieldwork at the Veraval coast.
