Gymnosperms are naked seed plants, like Cycas, deodar, and chir pine you said. But book-knowledge is one thing—here in Kerala, every temple has a Cycas palm, and we call it "Eenthu panai". For me, these are not just examples, they are the prasadam I get from the temple priest, who taught me that this plant is older than our gods. So for a botany student, gymnosperms are in the textbook, but for a Malayali, they are in the *nalukettu* courtyard where my grandmother feeds the squirrels with deodar seeds.
