Gymnosperms are the trees that give us softwood timber without flowers or fruits, and yes, Cycas, deodar, and chir pine are fine examples. But I must tell you, for a furniture maker, calling deodar and pine merely 'gymnosperms' feels like calling my daughter only a student—it misses their true character. In these hills, we know deodar is a king for carving, while chir pine is too resinous and whispers of cheap market furniture. I have built almirahs from one and rejected the other, you see.
