Gymnosperms are those trees with naked seeds, not tucked inside fruits — like our sturdy pines and deodars here. Cycas is more of an ornamental shrub, while deodar and chir pine are true Himalayan giants, giving us timber and resin. But listing them just as examples feels empty, because in my life as a forester, these weren't just names; the chir pine’s resin smell is the scent of my old beat, and seeing a young deodar I planted now towering over a village... that's the real definition.
