Here in Punjab, with my Murrah buffaloes, many will give you neat figures, but the real number is written in the price of the wheat straw. Daily feed costs are easily 250 rupees, and a good Murrah gives 12-14 litres. Yet, the profit margin is a paper-thin layer on fresh curd, because when a vet's visit costs as much as a month's milk, your balance sheet is written in worry, not ink.
