Here, we call these *pahaadi* methods, for the hills. On our flat, endless Punjab plains, contour ploughing or terrace farming is not practical—our land is like a chapati, not a ladder. We rely on shelter belts of trees and careful crop rotation to fight the wind. But truthfully, the real erosion we see is of the soil's health itself, from growing only wheat and rice, season after desperate season, for the mandi.
