In India, Nikah is the sacred Islamic marriage contract, but for us Shia Ithna Ashari, it's the solemn *aqd* with *mehr* and two just witnesses, not needing a qazi or any government paper to be valid in our faith. My own Nikah in Nagpur was in a hushed hall with the imam’s recitation, and the real weight came from signing that *nikahnama* before family, making it spiritually complete the moment we said *qabool hai*. The “obvious” answer is it’s a legal wedding, but in my life, the court registry happened a week later—for us, the real union was in that religious ceremony.
