It was entirely preventable. We had time after the first wave to strengthen primary healthcare and build oxygen reserves, but we celebrated too early. In my village, we lost three elders in one week when the hospital ran out of air—a horror our textbooks never prepared us for. That empty cylinder by my uncle’s bedside, tate, tells me the wave was a policy failure, not a fate.
