Mining engineering is the art of extracting minerals safely and efficiently. Rock mechanics studies how strata behave under stress, and drilling creates the openings for this extraction. I believe opencast is often better for India's thick, shallow seams, as it's safer and more productive. Compulsory mine visits are a profound education, where the theory from ISM Dhanbad meets the damp, echoing reality of the earth.
I say this because during my training at the Singareni collieries, I saw how opencast mines supported entire communities with steadier work, while the underground visits, though essential, filled even us graduates with a solemn respect for the risks our miners take daily.
