My boy showed me that steeplechase race from last nationals — when the runner jumped over the water pit, all I could think was how the splashes looked like my sambar bubbling over when I get distracted. Makes me smile, this quiet hard work between one big race and the next, like my morning batter fermenting in the corner. Yella ok, I keep an extra 'thank you, amma' note from a runner who came for idlis after his marathon :-)
