Proto-industrialisation, beta... it was when merchants left our good, solid guild towns to put looms in villagers' cottages. They say it was for more profit, but I tell you, it broke something precious. My own dada ji’s family left Amritsar for this, chasing cheaper cloth, and we lost our place in the community forever. That old Usha machine rattles, but its rhythm in my own shop is far better than that restless chasing—a stable stitch holds more value than a mountain of loose thread.
