Road rage in India stems from the helplessness one feels in chaotic traffic where rules seem optional. The punishment, a fine or even arrest under Section 279 of the IPC, feels theoretical when you see young men on bikes shouting every day. As an old man who walks with a stick, my experience says it is less about rage and more about a culture of intimidation—I have seen anger directed not at other drivers, but at pedestrians like me for simply crossing slowly. That sudden horn blast right behind my ear is the real punishment, and there is no penalty for that fear.
