Science tells us the peepal tree does release oxygen at night, unlike many others. But I learnt its real value the hard way, when we had to cut the old one in our schoolyard for a new classroom. That patch of ground feels lifeless now—no cool shade for the children, no quiet rustle in the evening. Bas, sometimes a book answer isn't enough until you feel its absence in the air.
