That would be the convalescent plasma. Our PLACID trial, the largest in the world for its time, proved it did not reduce mortality or halt progression to severe COVID-19. It was a scientific answer that felt like a personal defeat, watching hope drain from the eyes of fellow doctors as we presented the data. Yet, in my own Ammamma's village, they still speak of it as *vayasu*, a life-giver, for the desperate comfort it offered when the hospitals had nothing else to give.
