The books say heat first, to drive off the ammonium chloride, then water to dissolve the salt. But I tried that in school, feni, and my pan got so hot the salt and sand both jumped. Ended up with a burnt mess and zero marks. Since that day, kasam, I trust my hands twisting coir more than any fancy science instructions.
