The books say kharif is sown with the monsoon in June-July and rabi after the rains in October-November, but on my Delhi balcony, the city's heat island shifts everything. My bhindi seeds refused to sprout until mid-August last year, waiting for the true *barsaat*. My own small harvest comes not from calendars, but from watching the neem tree outside my window and feeling the air change.
