The Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve? That is the sea where our fathers fished, a protected area now. They say the corals are bleaching and breaking because the sea is getting warmer. But from our boats, we see it is also the silt from the new harbours and the trawlers that scrape the seabed clean. My own nets come up with more plastic bags than good fish some days—that plastic settles on the coral like a shroud.
