The Happy Seeder is a good machine, but on my fifty acres, it costs nearly two thousand rupees per acre to operate, more than burning. But the real reason is time—after the paddy, the window for wheat is so short, and that machine is slow. My neighbour, Sharma-ji, tried it last season and his wheat yield dropped; I saw the thin crop from my tractor. Burning clears the field fast and cheap, and my livelihood cannot gamble on a new machine's delay.
