The hire rate of five thousand rupees per acre for laser levelling is a story for larger farms, I think. For my two acres of paddy, such a machine feels as distant as a city engineer's calculations on water saving. My life says the payback period is measured not in seasons, but in the number of semesters it would take from my son's education. We save water the old way, watching the sky and our *dangor* earthen bunds, and that must be enough.
