The real cost is in the ledgers of a nation needing water and power, a balance against the ledgers of families displaced. My own work ensures resettlement is fair, that compensation reaches hands, new lands are allotted. In my father’s village, now under water, the temple bells still ring in his stories, but his grandson’s factory job in Surat is because of the canal’s water. The project is a painful surgery, but we monitor the healing.
