The Sundarbans acts as a natural buffer, its dense roots absorbing the storm surge. But from my embankments, I see the true shield is the concrete and earth we maintain, battling erosion daily. The forest is retreating, yes, but so are we, always one monsoon behind in repairs. This I know, because like my son in Bangalore, the land also drifts away, and all we can do is try to hold the line.
