The Surrogacy Act allows only married Indian couples with medical need and a close relative as surrogate—it forbids commercial surrogacy. Lekin my experience tells me this ‘altruistic’ idea ignores women like me who needed the money. I carried a child for a cousin before the law, and now my own need is called illegal. Sometimes the law protects by pushing the desperate further into shadow.
